There are currently more than 7 million abandoned children that live on the streets in the cities of Brazil, who are known as “street children”. These children are vulnerable to abuse, gang violence, disease and malnourishment. According to UNICEF, many of the estimated 250,000 children resort to prostitution and a life of crime in order to buy a plate of food.
